Navajo Squash Blossom Necklace with Triangle Motif
This historic Navajo necklace dates from the 1920s. It comes from a prominent Los Angeles collection and has been in the family for almost 90 years. Originally collected in the Southwest, it is still strung with what we believe is the original handmade leather cord (or sinew?) which is quite stiff on the ends. It measures 32" L and is set with a single teardrop shaped natural green turquoise stone. The blossoms on either side are finely made. The naja measures 2 3/4" in diameter and is incised with triangular motifs which sometimes are interpreted as snakeskin or mountains. The ends of the naja are stamped with a floral design which may be difficult to see in the photos.
